Weeks 15 & 16 – Op-Ed Published & Final Project Progress!

Hi everyone!

In these past few weeks, I’ve made completed really big steps for my independent study! Notably, in December, I had an op-ed published in the Indy Weekly about the issue of young voter turnout and where we stand right now following the November election. Just some background–I had contacted their interim news editor about potentially writing a piece in late November, and to my surprise, he was happy to see what I had to say! I had framed my potential op-ed as a testimony from a group we don’t typically hear from in news–actual young people. It was refreshing to hear that he really wanted to look at my piece because it showed me that there are adults out there who value young perspectives in politics! In other news, I’m nearing the end of my study! This is my 2nd-to-last week working on it. It’s really hard to believe that I’ve been working on this since August. In that time, I’ve phone and text banked for hours, done lots and lots of research, digested the results of a tough election, and have had an article published for the 1st time. Now, I’m going to finish my research paper and submit it to my advisors. I’ve already compiled essential questions, a thesis, and a rough outline, and now I need to put it all together. It’s going to be a lot of work, but I can do it! I’ve faced tougher workloads before. Anyways, I need to work on my paper right now, but I’ll keep y’all updated!
